چکیده
This paper describes an algorithm for recovering a collection of linear cracks in a homogeneous electrical conductor from boundary measurements of voltages induced by speci ed current uxes. The technique is a variation of Newton's method and is based on taking weighted averages of the boundary data. We also describe an apparatus that was constructed speci cally for generating laboratory data on which to test the algorithm. We apply the algorithm to a number of di erent test cases and discuss the results. This research was carried out while the rst author was in residence at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE), NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681, which is operated under National Aeronautics and Space Administration contracts NAS1-18605 and NAS119480; the third author is partially supported by National Science Foundation Grant DMS-9202042 and AFOSR Contract 89-NM-605.

متن کاملAn Iterative Method for Electrostatic Object Reconstruction in a Half Space
Sensing electrodes arranged in or around a display can provide input function for interactive displays. Commercially this is interesting because the sensing electrodes and electronics can be made in the same manufacturing process as that of the display itself thus reducing cost. In engineering terms the electrodes measure capacitance changes resulting from the presence and movement of objects s...
متن کاملUnique Determination of a Collection of a Finite Number of Cracks from Two Boundary Measurements
We consider the problem of identification of a collection of a finite number of cracks in a planar domain. It is proved that the location and shape of any finite number of cracks can be determined from boundary-voltage measurements corresponding to two boundary-current fluxes.
متن کاملReconstruction of Thin Tubular Inclusions in Three-Dimensional Domains Using Electrical Impedance Tomography
We consider the inverse problem of reconstructing thin tubular inclusions inside a three-dimensional body from measurements of electrostatic currents and potentials on its boundary. By inclusions we mean objects with an electrical conductivity differing from that of the background material of the body. We apply an asymptotic expansion of the electrostatic potential on the boundary of the body a...
متن کاملFast Imaging of Partially Conductive Linear Cracks Using Impedance Data
We develop two closely-related fast and simple numerical algorithms to address the inverse problem of identifying a collection of disjoint linear cracks in a twodimensional homogeneous electrical conductor from exterior boundary voltage/current measurements. We allow the possibility that the cracks are partially conductive. Our approach also allows us to determine the actual number of cracks pr...
